Details of the @statesman Tweetup

I’ve had several people ask me, “What is a Tweetup?” and it’s hard to answer in <140 characters, so I figured I’d try here instead. Plus, this gives me a chance to offer up more detail.

When: 6 p.m. Dec. 11 (a Thursday). There’s no set time for when it will end.

Where: Opal Divine’s south location at Penn Field

Why?: It’s just meant to be a social event. A chance to meet people in person in our community who you may only know through Twitter. Some Statesman staff members will be there, including @taratrower, @broylesa, @omarg and me the @statesman guy (also known as @robquig) – and maybe some others. We’ll hang out on Opal’s cool deck, drink a few drinks and maybe eat some cheese fries. There’s no agenda, panels, speakers, etc. Just a get-together. We might provide some name tags so everyone can identify their Twitter user name.

Cost: It’s free, unless you want to drink or eat. The Statesman is providing some cool free T-shirts for some of the lucky attendees, but that’s it.

Who is invited: Anyone who wants to come. Invite your friends/neighbors, significant others. There’s no need to RSVP. We have no idea how many people will show.

If you have more questions, @reply me or DM me on the Statesman account.

Cheers, Robert

  1. I plan on coming it should be fun times.

  2. Should be a good time. I will see you all there.

  3. I’m going to try and make it. How can anyone resist the call of cheese fries?

  4. Sounds like a great ideal. This is the first off-Twitter event that I have seen. I possible need to be more involved with Twitter than I currently am.

  5. Robert,
Is there an email or phone number where I can reach you to talk about Twitter and newspapers?
    Thanks,
    GS

will try and make it! sounds fun.

  7. I will try to attend. The folks I have met through Twitter this year have been some of the most amazingly cool people!

  8. Sure wish I could make this, but between my job and a toddler at home I just can’t do happy hours these days. Any plans for a lunch-time or weekend day tweetup? Am I the only one with this problem?

  9. Hope to be there before the ting tings concert. @Deirdrewalsh

Planning on it! I hope it’s cool if Brian and short Boy Jack come too…no babysitter handy.

  12. Kids are definitely welcome. Opal’s is kid-friendly. I can’t wait.

I really want to try to make this. I’ve always been interested in going to a Tweetup.

  14. I’m going to do my best to stop by for a bit. I get off work at 6pm and it’s on my way home. Nice of you to be so convenient for me. LOL

  15. I’ll be there – fashionably late though, I suspect, to avoid traffic.

  17. So sorry! Got sidetracked and forgot. Came home instead! Bad Arwen

  18. Hey Robert,

Just wanted to say hello – I received an @ message on Twitter probably intended for you and since we share some similarities, I thought I’d stop by and say hi!
